Volunteers, troopers rescue stranded hikers near glacier

Eight stranded hikers are safe in Petersburg this week thanks to the efforts of good samaritans, State Troopers and local Search and Rescue Volunteers Sunday. An apparent transportation mix-up left the group of seasonal cannery workers stuck overnight on the beach in front of a glacier without the proper clothes or provisions. Matt Lichtenstein reports:

Petersburg volunteers sew quilts for veterans

Petersburg quilters have awarded 12 quilts so far to local veterans in the project, Quilts of Valor. Their goal is to make 100 for all local veterans in town. more

Southeast pols seek inclusion in pink salmon disaster request

State politicians are asking the Governor to include Southeast in the state’s requests for pink salmon disaster relief. The Walker administration is already seeking federal disaster declarations for commercial pink salmon fisheries in Prince William Sound, Kodiak, Chignik and the Lower Cook Inlet. more
