Salvation Army helps more familes this year

Many struggling families rely on the Salvation Army to supply them with Christmas and Thanksgiving dinner supplies in Petersburg. With community help, the religious and charitable organization provided Christmas dinner for many more families this year though the number of individuals is close to last year.

Matt Lichtenstein checked in with Salvation Army Lt. Caleb Fankhauser, shortly after church staff and volunteers finished handing out the Christmas food boxes this week.

Petersburg’s “purple librarian” passes away at 100

Ruth W. Sandvik passed away July 29 in Seattle’s Kline Galland home in the comfort of her family. Ruth, 100 years old, fractured her hip at her assisted living in Petersburg then was air evacuated to Swedish Medical Center in Seattle. After a successful operation she suffered a stroke and didn’t ever fully recover. more
