Former corrections worker joins Petersburg police force

Petersburg’s newest police officer arrived in town this week. 35-year-old Ben King worked in Idaho in corrections for seven years. He’s originally from Montana and spent his summers in high school commercial fishing in Bristol Bay. Joe Viechnicki spoke with King along with local police Captain John Hamilton about staffing in the Petersburg police department.

Petersburg drug cases resolved

One Petersburg man will likely be serving jail time for trying to sell heroin and methamphetamine in Petersburg, while his brother will not. 63-year-old Lorry Christensen entered guilty pleas to two counts on Thursday. He pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of attempted misconduct involving a controlled substance in the second degree as well as misconduct involving a controlled substance in the third degree. Meanwhile, drug charges have been dismissed against his brother, 57-year-old Lars Christensen. more

Petersburg to seek larger land grant through legislation

Petersburg is hoping for legislative help to boost the size of a state land entitlement that comes with the formation of a new municipality. A local committee is recommending the borough seek all of the un-spoken for state land within Petersburg’s boundaries. more
