Troopers identify deceased girl in Kake

Alaska State Troopers Wednesday night put out this update on the death investigation in Kake:
“Family identified the deceased as 13 year old Mackenzie H. Howard of Kake. Howard was found deceased by a member of the community inside the arctic entry of the Memorial Presbyterian Church. Howard’s body will be sent to Anchorage for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of her death. Troopers will remain in Kake through the evening and into tomorrow as the crime scene is being processed and interviews are being conducted.”
Changes to Petersburg’s recycling program probably will not be made until this fall.
The borough’s public works director says the change from blue plastic bags and a private company contracting for collection to borough collection and new 96-gallon containers for local households will not happen for about six months. more
Petersburg’s school board Friday approved spending for a replacement vehicle for school activities and new LED lighting for the high school gym. more
