Troopers identify deceased girl in Kake

Alaska State Troopers Wednesday night put out this update on the death investigation in Kake:
“Family identified the deceased as 13 year old Mackenzie H. Howard of Kake. Howard was found deceased by a member of the community inside the arctic entry of the Memorial Presbyterian Church. Howard’s body will be sent to Anchorage for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of her death. Troopers will remain in Kake through the evening and into tomorrow as the crime scene is being processed and interviews are being conducted.”
A charitable endowment fund in Petersburg has awarded grants totaling 11-thousand dollars to six different local non-profit organizations. That money will fund teaching supplies for young children, food for kids on the weekend, library programs for kids and a shelter building for the humane association among other items. more
