Troopers identify deceased girl in Kake

Alaska State Troopers Wednesday night put out this update on the death investigation in Kake:
“Family identified the deceased as 13 year old Mackenzie H. Howard of Kake. Howard was found deceased by a member of the community inside the arctic entry of the Memorial Presbyterian Church. Howard’s body will be sent to Anchorage for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of her death. Troopers will remain in Kake through the evening and into tomorrow as the crime scene is being processed and interviews are being conducted.”

Without any challenger for his seat this October, Petersburg borough mayor Mark Jensen will be continuing on in that role for another three years. The 60-year-old welder and commercial fisherman has been mayor of the borough since the start of the new expanded municipality in January of 2013. Before that he served on the council for the city of Petersburg and filled in for as city mayor when needed. more
