Petersburg chuch holds one of many vigils for Mackenzie Howard

A group of Petersburg residents gathered at the Salvation Army Church Friday Night for a candlelight vigil in memory of Kake teenager Mackenzie Howard and in support of her family. It was one of many such events around Alaska. You can listen to the Petersburg vigil below:

Three days of fun and games planned for Petersburg’s Independence Day celebration

Petersburg is planning several days of fun events to celebrate the Independence Day holiday. Vendor and food booths are open Friday, July 3rd from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday, July 4th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on main street. The festivities kick off Thursday night, July 2nd at the Parks and Recreation community center. more

The Chautauqua Brings Spirit of Education to Petersburg

If you went down to Sandy Beach park on Sunday afternoon you might have been in for a big surprise. Dozens of tents lie camouflaged in the canopy of trees. Dotted on the floor in between are juggling clubs, brass instruments and costumes of a kind of Victorian hue. This is Chautauqua land. more
