Recreation renovating fitness center through summer

Due to renovations, the borough’s fitness center closed one of its weight rooms from this week through mid-August, and the community gym will also close down for a week next month for floor refinishing. Robbie Feinberg stopped by the center last week and spoke to Parks and Recreation director Donnie Hayes to see what that those changes mean for residents.

Voters nix income disclosure for Petersburg office holders

Voters Tuesday agreed to remove a financial disclosure requirement for Petersburg elected officials and the vote was not close. That measure asked to exempt local candidates from filing income information with the Alaska Public Offices Commission. The same question was on the ballot and failed narrowly last year, when turnout was much higher at 39 percent. more
