Mummers stage new spin on classic tale

Petersburg’s amateur theater group will perform a fresh twist on a classic tale this week. It’s called “Cinderella or the Story of Bigfoot” and the premiere is tonight at the Wright Auditorium. Matt Lichtenstein stopped by the Mitkof Mummer’s rehearsal and produced this audio postcard:

The Mitkof Mummers perform “Cinderella or the Story of Bigfoot” tonight (Thursday), Friday, and Saturday at seven in Petersburg’s Wright Auditorium.
A major road and sidewalk project in Petersburg is getting underway this spring. The 8.3-million dollar paving, drainage and sidewalk replacement project will be happening on two state-owned roads near downtown Petersburg, Haugen Drive and South Nordic Drive. more
The Senate Finance committee this week heard testimony from around Alaska on the state’s operating budget next year. Facing a multi-billion dollar budget deficit, lawmakers have proposed hundreds of millions of dollars of cuts to state funding for programs ranging from education, to state forestry, to domestic violence prevention. Residents testifying in Petersburg Monday urged the committee to restore funding to public broadcasting, schools and the ferry system. more
