Rescue volunteers responded to people on board a small crab boat that went onto the rocky beach north of town. In an interview about the incident, Petersburg Harbor Master, Glorianne Wollen, told Angela Denning that she got a call at 5:20 p.m. Sunday.

The harbor security boat is always on standby for helping with rescue missions. Wollen says the frequency of missions has increased as more people have come into the region and live down the Narrows. The boat is used by the police and fire departments and by search and rescue .The harbor works with the U.S. Coast Guard to decide how they are going to respond.

There are several volunteer operators who can run the rescue boat but Wollen says they are always looking for more. It takes a little training for insurance purposes but she encourages anyone who is interested should call the harbor or fire or police department.
