Cancer survivors and loved ones lost to the disease will be celebrated and remembered in a run-walk this weekend. The Circle of Life 5K will start at Sandy Beach Park at 9 a.m. Saturday and head out on Cabin Creek road before returning back to the park.
The event is sponsored by Petersburg’s Beat the Odds organization, which supports cancer patients in Petersburg and Southeast.

The Circle of Life run/walk began in April of 2012 in honor of Michael Wittstock, who died from leukemia. His wife, Bridget, told KFSK’s Angela Denning that Michael was an avid runner and the cabin creek road was one of his favorite places to run.

In 2014, Beat the Odds raised over $26,000. $15,000 of that was donated to three regional organizations to help pay for travel for cancer patients in Southeast.

As part of fundraising this year, Beat the Odds is auctioning a rosemaled hanging mitten bowl donated by the Muskeg Maleriers. You can view it at Lee’s Clothing or on our website, kfsk.org. Bidding on the wall décor will close at the start of the run-walk.

Registration for the Circle of Life Run-Walk starts at 8 a.m. at the park or you can register early at Lee’s Clothing.

The Beat the Odds Committee meets once a month at the library.
