Petersburg’s bulkhead loading dock construction is complete and it’s open for business.

The bulkhead loading dock gives another option for large boats to load and unload heavy equipment aside from the crane dock. It’s built onto the approach of the drive down dock near South Harbor.

KFSK’s Angela Denning spoke with Glorianne Wollen, Petersburg’s Harbor Master, about the details of the new loading dock.

The bulkhead project was paid for with $1.23 million leftover from the drive down dock project. The borough kicked in about $200,000 more. Wollen says the bulkhead is built in a way that it could be expanded closer to Nordic Drive if the borough wanted to pursue that in the future.

PND Engineers out of Juneau designed the bulkhead and local construction company Tamico built it.
