PETERSBURG, ALASKA A Washington D.C. judge this week heard arguments for and against lifting a one-fish halibut bag limit for Southeast Alaska charter fishing clients. The International Pacific Halibut Commmission, which manages halibut stocks in the U.S. and Canada, has filed a brief in that court case, and has concerns about exceeding a charter guideline harvest level in area 2C, or Southeast Alaska. IPHC Executive Director Bruce Leaman was in Petersburg this week and Joe Viechnicki asked him about the commission’s involvement in the charter lawsuit along with the status of this year’s commerical halibut season.
