Most parents answering the online survey say teachers are effective instructors. But the ratings drop from about 90 percent at the elementary level to about 70 percent at the high school.

Superintendent Robert Thomason was generally pleased with the results. But he’s concerned at the answers to one high school question.

"As always, we focus on, so where do we need to improve? And the one that jumps out at us is the question about, do the students know the rules? And are they communicating with parents. And are they enforced. And if a third of the people have a question about that then we need to improve that statistic."

He says district staff will look for solutions over the summer.

People taking the survey were also asked for comments. They weren’t made public, but Thomason says they reflected some issues.

"There’s a high level of concern about drugs and alcohol in the community and in the school. And that is an area we’re working on. In fact, we just had a visit from a drug dog and he did a sweep of the building. We’re quite pleased with the lack of results.
Q: So the dog didn’t find anything?
A: He found a minor trace in one individual’s possession. And do we think a minor trace of marijuana is pretty good, given that it was an unannounced visit."

This is the second year for the survey.
