Petersburg residents joined with over 120 communities around the state Thursday in a Choose Respect rally against domestic violence and sexual assault. The annual event was started by Governor Sean Parnell three years ago, in an effort to reduce the Alaska’s high levels of violence and abuse. Parnell and his wife Sandy led a similar rally in Fairbanks at midday Thursday. In Petersburg, marchers paraded down main street with the high school drumline playing and gathered afterward at the Sons of Norway Hall.
