A new rock garden in front of the Rae Stedman Elementary School is helping with a drainage problem and giving the school’s front yard a new look. KFSK’s Angela Denning reports:

The garden runs the full length of the school, made up of about 120 yards of rock. It covers about half of the lawn between the sidewalk and the school building.

The larger boulders in the garden weigh up to 1,300 pounds.

The idea for the rock garden was part Eric Hoff’s. He’s with the district’s maintenance department. I meet him out in the garden.

The whole project budget was around $3,500.

Hoff says many volunteers helped make it happen. He says besides those mentioned earlier, Warren Brown did some preparation ground work at the site. And Carissa Cotta, the High School Librarian, also helped research rock gardens.
