The local dance studio MDT is performing the Nutcracker this coming weekend at the Wright Auditorium. The dance recital includes 180 local dancers taught by five teachers.

Earlier this week a dozen 5-year-olds were on stage in the Wright Auditorium. Some were in leotards and others were in street clothes. The dancers were being led by dance instructor, Kaili Swanson. They were learning where their stickers are (the place they’re supposed to find when they come on stage). And they were fine tuning the dance they’ve been practicing all fall—as the Nutcracker’s Gingerbreads.

Over near the side of the stage was dance instructor, Kathleen Boggs. She was on the floor busily twisting gigantic plastic peppermints. She took a break for a few minutes to talk to me about this year’s performance. MDT Studio has put on the Nutcracker every other winter for years and Boggs said it’s different each time.

The Nutcracker will be performed at the Wright Auditorium this Friday and Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Tickets for the Nutcracker are on sale at Lee’s Clothing for $10.
