KFSK News and the Petersburg Medical Center monthly program, “PMC Live” airs at 12:30pm, the first Thursday of each month. The program will focus on different departments, new initiatives, and highlight challenges at the medical center.

This episode for December 1, 2022 featured an update on community events in December with PMC Long Term Care activities with coordinator Alice Neidiffer and hospital nutritionist, Lydia Wickersham.  CEO Phil Hofstetter also introduced new Nurse Practioner, Angela Menish – Angela has been a registered nurse in the hospital but is now moving to the clinic as a newly certified Nurse Practitioner.

The May 5, 2022 episode features CEO Phil Hofstetter, Lab Manager Violet Shimek, PMC Board Member and PMC Foundation Board Member Kathi Riemer, Community Wellness & Emergency Preparedness Coordinator Julie Walker. They discuss blood draws that are being processed in the lab as part of the upcoming health fair. They also talk about the hospital’s foundation and the way it raises funds for nurse’s scholarships.

The April 7, 2022 episode features Julie Walker, PMC’s Community Wellness & Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, who talks about the Community Health Fair coming up June 4. Blood draws for the health fair panel will be available at the end of April and throughout May. CEO Phil Hofstetter gives an update on COVID-19 in the community and hospital. He also reflects on the meeting between PMC’s board and SEARHC.

The March 3, 2022 episode features Nurse Manager Jennifer Bryner, Joy Jansen Clinic Manager Kelly Zweifel, and CEO Phil Hofstetter. They discuss the challenges that COVID placed on staffing and the job openings they have for CNAs, CMAs, and RNs. Hofstetter talked about a presentation by SEARHC that is planned during a PMC board meeting, March 24, about the future of healthcare in Petersburg. 

The February 3, 2022 episode features CEO Phil Hofstetter, Home Health Manager Kirsten Testoni, Chief Information Officer Jill Dormer, and Infection Prevention Manager Liz Bacom. They describe changes to their testing for COVID, expanding the Home Health Department, and efficiencies with Cerner.  

The January 6, 2022 episode features CEO Phil Hofstetter, Electronic and Health Record and Information Systems Lead, Matt Pawuk,  and Community Wellness Specialist, Becky Turland. They talk about new efficiencies using Cerner, which has been operational for one month. They also discussed community surveys on childcare in Petersburg and a community cafe that’s coming up on the subject. 

The episode for Thursday, December 2nd, 2021 is with Petersburg Medical Center chief executive officer Phil Hofstetter and chief information officer Jill Dormer discussing the roll out of a new electronic health records system. It goes live at PMC Monday, December 6:

The November 4, 2021 episode is about the Covid-19 outbreak happening in Petersburg. Active cases are up to 48 with about 100 pending tests that have been sent out of town. Guests include CEO Phil Hofstetter and Dr. Selina Burt with the Petersburg Medical Center and Superintendent Erica Kludt-Painter with the Petersburg School District. 

The October 7, 2021 episode features Behavioral Health Clinician Ashley Kawashima talking about Mental Illness Awareness Week and ways people can seek help or check in with friends and loved ones. Dr. Cortney Hess and CEO Phil Hofstetter talk about the COVID-19 situation locally and how the pandemic is affecting medevac capabilities in Petersburg. They also talk about the start of the flu season , which can compound the pandemic struggles.

The episode for September 2, 2021 features Julie Walker, PMC’s Community Wellness & Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, and CEO Phil Hofstetter talking about past and present wellness programs. One of the grant funded programs, CAPABLE, helps local seniors decide what they need to live independently at home. The guests also talk about finishing a community survey and upcoming townhalls to give out the results.

The episode for August 5, 2021 discusses the blood drive happening in Petersburg Aug. 6-7 in collaboration with the Blood Bank of Alaska and Parks and Rec. Guests are Westley Dahlgren with the blood bank, PMC CEO Phil Hofstetter, and PMC Public Relations Coordinator, Kelsey Lambe. Hofstetter also talks about collaborating with SEARHC on future healthcare in Petersburg.

The episode for Thursday, May 6, 2021 is with PMC CEO Phil Hofstetter and Nurse Manager, Jennifer Bryner. They talked about the four new graduates from PMC’s nursing program in conjunction with the University of Alaska Anchorage. They gave an update on getting a new facility and the expansion of home health services during the pandemic.

PMC is asking everyone with unusual symptoms to them to get tested, even if the symptoms are mild.

The December 3 episode features Chief Nursing Officer Jennifer Bryner, and CEO Phil Hofstetter, talking about how PMC’s nurses during the pandemic. How have things changed for them with work and how are they coping?

The November 5 episode features Kirsten Rioux-Testoni, Home Health Manager, and CEO Phil Hofstetter, talking about PMC’s growing Home Health Department.

The October 1 episode features PMC CEO Phil Hofstetter, Dr. Jennifer Hyer, Nurse Manager, Jennifer Bryner, and Infection Prevention Manager, Liz Bacom. They talk briefly about a staff person testing positive for COVID-19 and they talk in detail about the flu season and the importance of community members getting flu shots this year.

The September 3 episode features new PMC doctor, Dr. Kayla Luhrs, along with CEO Phil Hofstetter. Luhrs talks about how she likes living in Petersburg and her plans to start group healing at PMC. They both discuss having five doctors at the medical center.

The August 6 episode features PMC Dietitian, Kelly Zweifel, who is also on the medical center’s Wellness Committee. Zweifel talks about the Healthy Community Series for July, August, and September and announces a Rainforest Run in September.

The June 4, 2020 episode is with Julie Walker, the Petersburg Medical Center’s rehab services coordinator and a wellness committee member along with Kelsey Lambe, public relations coordinator talking about this month’s community mileage challenge and the paddle battle:

The March 5, 2020 episode featured Devynn Johnson, Project Manager and Kelsey Lambe, Public Relations staff at Petersburg Medical Center – the discussion focused on the Health Fair scheduled in early April, also the COVID-19 virus and the community’s readiness. 

The February 6, 2020 episode featured Matt Pawuk, PMC’s EHR and Technology Systems Lead, talking about keeping digital medical records, and CEO Phil Hofstetter, giving an update on a proposal to build a new hospital in town.

The January 2, 2020 episode continued the discussion on the master planning for either a new hospital or remodel of the current facility. Devynn Johnson is again the guest on the program, along with Kelly Zweifel, PMC’s new dietician and wellness coordinator.

The December 5, 2019 episode discusses the master planning for either a new hospital or remodeling the current medical center. PMC CEO Phil Hofstetter, Architect Dan Jardine with NAC Architecture in Seattle, and Devynn Johnson, PMC’s Project Manager talk about the data gathering process, where the project is at, and the timeline for coming up with options.

PMC medical center CEO Phil Hofstetter also talks about the hire of a fourth physician and another community cafe listening session planned for next week.
