Mara Lutomski has resigned from the Petersburg School Board. She’s been on the board for five years and president of the board for the last three years.

The school board met on Monday to accept her resignation, which was effective February 26. This opens up a vacancy on the board, a seat that will run until the October municipal election.

Lutomski is also the Director of the Petersburg Chamber of Commerce.

KFSK’s Angela Denning sat down with Lutomski to talk about her decision and where the school board is heading. Lutomski says she’s pursuing other opportunities in town that she couldn’t do while still on the school board.

The school district is seeking a new school board member to fill the vacant seat. You can get more information about applying for that seat at the district office.

Lutomski is encouraging anyone serving on a board or thinking about serving on a board to consider a free workshop April 1 at the Petersburg Public Library. The Foraker Group will be in town teaching participants about board roles and responsibilities. The class runs 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1st.
