Eighteen people have filed for candidacy so far in the Petersburg Borough’s upcoming local election. The deadline for prospective candidates to submit their paperwork is Tuesday afternoon.

There are 20 local office seats slated for the October 7 ballot.

Since last week, incumbent Sarah Pawuk Holmgrain filed for reelection to the School Board, Tony Vinson joined the race for Petersburg Borough Assembly, and Sunny Rice filed to run for the third open seat on the Parks and Rec Advisory Board.

However, several seats could be left unfilled if no more people file for them. As of Monday morning, that includes two Hospital Board seats, two seats on the Planning Commission, and one seat on the School Board. Each of those elected positions are 3-year terms.

For now, only the races for Petersburg Borough Assembly and the Public Safety Advisory Board are contested. Each candidate will be on the ballot for election, even if they are running uncontested.

Borough residents can file candidacy paperwork to the borough clerk until 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26.
