Petersburg’s high school basketball season is well underway, and the boys’ varsity team spent their winter break traveling to games hosted at Craig, Juneau, and Metlakatla. The team won 4 out of the 6 games they’ve played so far.
KFSK’s Taylor Heckart sat down with Vikings head coach Rick Brock to talk about the season so far. Brock said it’s been a busy few weeks for the team.
Listen here:
The Vikings began the season by traveling to Craig to play against the Panthers, winning 63-22 on Dec. 19, and 58-28 on Dec. 20.
Right after Christmas, the Vikings went to the Capital City Classic in Juneau. The Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé Crimson Bears beat the Vikings 60-50 on Dec. 27, and the Monroe Catholic Rams won against the Vikings 43-36 on Dec. 29.
The next weekend, the Vikings traveled to Metlakatla. They won both games against the Metlakatla Chiefs, winning 44-26 on Jan. 3, and 58-50 on Jan. 4.
Brock said seniors Logan Tow and Aiden Knudsen “really fought hard” during the Metlakatla games.
“And they did quite a bit of our scoring, too,” Brock said.
