Alaska State Troopers have identified the person who died in a boating accident near Petersburg last week as Susan Paul, age 73 of California. She was in a 20-foot Hewescraft skiff that sank after a collision with a larger seine boat.

Organization wins a grant to study Southeast’s trash problem

An organization working to reduce the cost of trash disposal in Southeast Alaska has won a half-million dollar grant from the Denali Commission. The Southeast Alaska Solid Waste Authority, or SEASWA, plans to use the grant to study whether there are cheaper, more efficient ways to get rid of garbage in Southeast Alaska.
