Petersburg hosts Region 5 Artfest

High school students from all over Southeast Alaska will be in Petersburg this week for Artfest. The annual festival was started in the late 90s by art teachers from Petersburg and Wrangell. It gives kids a chance to explore techniques and mediums they might not have access to at home.

Stedman principal Heather Conn wins statewide award

Last week the Alaska Association of Elementary School Principals announced that Petersburg’s Heather Conn is the National Distinguished Principal for 2024. Conn has been the principal of Rae C. Stedman Elementary since 2019. Before that she taught 4th grade and special education at the school.
