Petersburg Borough can now sell its land at below assessed or appraised value if it will benefit the public

The Petersburg Borough can now sell its land to private citizens and developers at below appraised value. The Petersburg Borough Assembly approved the change last week. Assembly Member Thomas Fine-Walsh submitted the ordinance. He told assembly members it’s meant to address the shortage of reasonably priced housing within the Borough.

Residents, biologists discuss freshwater king salmon closure

The hatchery-based sport fishery at Blind River Rapids won’t open this summer because of low projected returns. Those returning salmon, or broodstock, are used to raise new fish.

Land sale cap raised for the first time since 1990

The Petersburg Borough can now sell land assessed at up to $1,500,000 without a public vote. The change comes after the proposal passed unanimously at the Borough Assembly meeting on March 18. The land sale cap had been set at $500,000 since 1990. With inflation, that amount is worth more than $1,200,000 today.
