Blind Slough’s freshwater king fishery won’t open this summer

Sport fishermen won’t be able to fish for king salmon at a popular slough near Petersburg this summer because of low projected returns. But anglers in boats will be able to fish for kings in the saltwater at the mouth of the slough. As KFSK’s Hannah Flor reports, some fishermen are frustrated with the plan.

School Board to discuss a range of budgetary concerns

The Petersburg School Board will cover budgetary business at its meeting tonight. Board members will get an update on the budget process for the next school year from Superintendent Erica Kludt-Painter and Finance Director Shannon Baird.

Teacher contract negotiations are complicated by tight budgets, limited education funding

Petersburg’s teachers union is negotiating a new contract with the school district. Both the union and the district say years of flat education funding from the state is making the negotiations more complicated this year. And, as KFSK’s Hannah Flor reports, they’re worried about the effects that lack of funding will have on the quality of education the district is able to provide.
