Spring bear hunt closure only for non-residents

After announcing there would be no spring bear hunting in the state, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game has partially changed its mind. All non-resident brown and black bear hunts will remain closed through May 31st. Spring bear hunting for Alaska residents remains open during that time.

Petersburg teen honored for Girl Scout gold award

The Petersburg borough in March recognized local Girl Scout gold award winner Leesa Murph. The 17-year-old attained that honor last November after completing a project to provide life jackets at the Blaquiere Point boat ramp on southern Mitkof Island.
