Petersburg’s borough assembly Monday approved several measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Those include a pay out from the borough’s economic fund for local businesses and the green light for the local hospital to apply for a payroll loan.

After announcing there would be no spring bear hunting in the state, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game has partially changed its mind. All non-resident brown and black bear hunts will remain closed through May 31st. Spring bear hunting for Alaska residents remains open during that time.

Petersburg is canceling its Little Norway Festival, an annual celebration of Norwegian heritage for the Southeast Alaska fishing community.

Alaska Wildlife Troopers have brought misdemeanor charges against a Petersburg man for allegedly shooting a deer with an arrow and trapping another.
