The North Pacific Fishery Management Council is looking at more changes for halibut charter fishing in Southeast and Southcentral Alaska. The council met in early December and is preparing recommendations for the International Pacific Halibut Commission, which meets next month.

The North Pacific Fishery Management Council in December voted against tightening regulations on sport anglers who rent a boat to fish for halibut. It’s seen as a growing part of the sport fishing fleet in Southeast Alaska but has more liberal bag limits than clients who go out fishing with a guide.

Petersburg’s representative in the Alaska House of Representatives thinks this upcoming session already has a very different feel from last year’s.

A film company estimates it captured thousands of hours of footage with police departments in four Alaska locales earlier this year for a TV series called “Alaska PD” that premiers on January 1st.
