The Clausen Museum in Petersburg installed a major new piece of public art outside the borough assembly chambers in the municipal building this month, during Petersburg’s Little Norway Festival. The massive painted and carved red cedar bench is the work of four well-known artists from Ketchikan and was part of the Decolonizing Alaska exhibit that toured the country in the past few years.

The Sitka Sound Slayers beat the Petersburg Ragnarok Rollers in a close roller derby bout Friday night during Petersburg’s Little Norway Festival.

By a 4-3 vote Monday, Petersburg’s borough assembly gave the green light to a land swap with fuel company Petro Marine, for property along South Nordic Drive. The borough’s harbor department wants the Petro property for a maintenance building. But the proposed deal is not without its critics.

Reversing course from the meeting before, Petersburg’s borough assembly Monday added back two days a year when people would be allowed to shoot off fireworks within the old city limits.
