Another hunting regulation change approved by the Board of Game this week will mean an expanded area for archery deer hunting in Petersburg. The board Tuesday OK’d a proposal to shrink the bow hunting buffer from a quarter mile to 100 yards.

A fabric artist and basket weaver from Ketchikan is speaking and leading a workshop in Petersburg this week. Kathy Rousso came to Southeast Alaska for a job with the U.S. Forest Service in the 1970s.

The state’s Board of Game Sunday voted down proposals to require ID tags or signs around traps and snares in Southeast Alaska. The board was split on one of the proposals that was intended to help with enforcement of trapping regulations and to address problems of pets getting caught in traps.

The state’s Board of Game Saturday voted against allowing hunters to shoot from a boat in Southeast Alaska. It was one of more than 50 proposals decided by the board during a five-day meeting in Petersburg.

Alaska’s Board of Game Tuesday approved a longer deer season near Petersburg. The board amended a proposal to extend the deer hunt two weeks into November but agreed to offer more hunting opportunity in October.
