Petersburg’s borough assembly Monday approved a sweeping revision of borough code on zoning, land subdivision and building construction. They also approved more than a dozen changes for what’s allowed and what’s required on different types of land.

Borough staff will continue negotiating a potential land exchange with fuel company Petro Marine. That’s after the borough assembly Monday took its second vote this month to proceed with talks with the company. Mayor Mark Jensen had concerns about the costs of the deal.

Deer hunters around Petersburg could see a longer season under a pair of proposals before the state’s Board of Game next month. At a meeting earlier this month, Petersburg’s Fish and Game advisory committee voted to support longer hunting seasons but wasn’t unanimous on the change.

Police officers swarmed into Petersburg Medical Center at 2 p.m. Wednesday as some staff left the building. It was all part of a training session on how the hospital would respond to a shooter at the facility. Staffers assembled nearby at a rally point and reviewed what worked and what didn’t while police went through the medical center and tested other staff barricaded in place.
