The remodeling of Petersburg’s police station and jail didn’t require a loan from the electrical department after all. The borough completed the year-long and two-phase renovation of the downtown building in 2017. The borough assembly Monday voted to pay for the remaining $464,711 needed for the project from general fund reserves.

It looks like voters will not have a chance this fall to weigh in on a legislative ethics ballot measure. Alaska’s Lieutenant Governor and the attorney general’s office have determined a bill passed by the legislature this spring is similar enough to keep the issue off the ballot.

Petersburg Police arrested a woman Tuesday morning after she allegedly threatened police officers with a hatchet near the police station. An off-duty officer relayed a report of a woman walking along Mitkof Highway near Libby Straits south of town, just before 8 o clock Tuesday morning, striking the handrail with a hatchet.
