Kids meet ocean creatures at Petersburg’s North Harbor

At last week’s “Diving For Science” event in Petersburg, kids, adults, and at least one dog got acquainted with some of the sea creatures that live in Southeast Alaska. Two divers brought urchins and crabs from elsewhere in the region to North Harbor and then dove in to see what animals were hanging around the dock.

Petersburg sued for July Fourth fatal van crash

The family of a young woman killed in a van wreck two years ago is now suing the Petersburg borough and the driver of that van. A lawsuit filed this month claims the borough ignored warnings about Chris Allen’s medical history that should have kept him out of the driver’s seat. Two people died when a borough van crashed on July 4th, 2016. Allen is also scheduled to go on trial for criminal charges from that crash at the end of July.

This month’s Market in Petersburg was one of only two scheduled this summer. If the experience was less frenzied than in past years, it still provided a chance for local makers to show off their wares and for their kids to get business experience that went far beyond your average lemonade stand.
