A few hundred civic and business leaders from around the region are gathered in Petersburg this week for the annual meeting of Southeast Conference. Officials kicked off the three days of meetings and planning sessions Tuesday morning.

Petersburg’s efforts at forming a borough are gaining a bit more momentum. The Mayor and City Council are now reviewing the latest revision to the draft borough petition. They’ve also appointed members for a new borough committee.

The lifecycle of Coho salmon may be more complicated than once thought. Researchers are finding that some fish may grow up in more than one stream. Melati Kaye have more from the Tongass Rainforest festival in Petersburg.

The City of Petersburg’s largest workers union says management needs to revise its latest contract offer before its members will vote on it. Matt Lichtenstein has an update on the half-year old labor dispute:

The challenger in the Republican primary race for state house district two has conceded the race. Just 142 votes separate challenger Stephen Samuelson of Petersburg and five-term incumbent representative Peggy Wilson of Wrangell for the Republican nomination to represent Wrangell, Petersburg, Sitka, Pelican, Elfin Cove and Port Alexander in the state house. While the results will not be certified until the middle of this month, the state’s division of elections says there are no outstanding ballots left to count in the race.
