Governor Sean Parnell has approved ten million dollars for a new firehall and a new library in Petersburg. The small city of Kupreanof is opposing the Northern Route for an electrical connection from hydro-powered Petersburg to diesel-powered Kake. The Kupreanof City Council remains in support of supplying Kake with cheaper, cleaner power but Kupreanof residents don’t want the project to cut through their community.
