Committee finishes revising smoking rules

A committee of business people and concerned citizens has finished their revision of a proposed smoking ban for most of Petersburg’s public spaces, businesses and other places where there are employees at work. The Mayor and City Council initially passed the first reading of the original measure in March. Petersburg may continue curbside recycling service

Petersburg’s curbside recycling program may be able to continue with some city funding and oversight. The Petersburg Indian Association started the pilot program nearly five years ago, but it’s set to end next month because the grant that paid for it has run out. Now, the city’s Sanitation Department is proposing a plan to keep the effort going.

Girls on the run runs first program in Petersburg

Girls On The Run has wrapped up its first program in Petersburg., Girls on the Run is an internationally-known program with a stated mission of preparing elementary school-aged girls “for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living”. The girls finished up with a 5k run/walk event after 12 weeks of running, playing games, and learning with teen and adult volunteers and teachers. MAP discusses salmon quality findings

Southeast salmon fishermen can learn some tips on improving the quality of their catch and bringing higher prices at the dock in Petersburg tonight. The local Marine Advisory Program office is hosting a presentation on innovations in salmon quality in Bristol Bay. Matt Lichtenstein asked Marine Advisory agent Sunny Rice about the program, and what it could do for southeast fishermen.
