A Petersburg art teacher, Ashley DuRoss, will be displaying some of her paintings at the Clausen Museum until June 20. The exhibit called “Hybrid Spaces” opens today and there will be an artist reception at the museum from 5-7PM tonight. Council moves ahead on pipe fix despite potential setback

Petersburg has chosen a contractor to repair the problematic Cabin Creek water pipeline and the work should soon be moving ahead despite another potential setback that cropped up this week.
State officials say they want more detail on the project plans before they’ll give the green light for work on the dam itself, which is the second phase of the project. City officials say they can still move ahead with the first phase as planned. That involves the repair and upgrade of the existing pipeline. In a special meeting this week, the City Council agreed to award the construction bid, so phase one can be finished in time to provide water from Cabin Creek this summer. However, the councilors also voiced frustration and disappointment with the work of the city’s engineering consultants.

City councilor sues city harbormaster

A Petersburg City Councilor is suing the city’s harbormaster. Councilor Bob Nilson’s lawsuit accuses Harbormaster Jim Stromdahl of invasion of privacy and defamation. Nilson threatened to sue this spring after publically alleging that Stromdahl and others had been involved in an effort to spy on his home. Stromdahl denied those allegations, which stem partly from concerns some city employees raised about city councilors getting together outside of public meetings.
