Funeral services for 40-year-old Helen shear will be held on Wednesday in Petersburg. Shear was the victim of a shooting Friday. Police say she was killed by a former employee who then killed himself.

Petersburg’s airport is set to shut down for up to a month this spring. That will mean passengers and freight will have to travel to and from Wrangell to catch Alaska Airlines flights.
It’s part of a major project to reconstruct the runway with new safety improvements. Contractors are set to start working on the first phase of the project in September, though the runway-shutdown is not scheduled until late march.
About 39 percent of Petersburg’s registered voters cast ballots in Tuesday’s primary. The state division of election website numbers actually only show only 29 percent for Petersburg right now. However, the states number does not yet include absentee and question ballots cast, as well as the sample republican ballots that over 200 Petersburg voters had to use because of a shortage of official republican ballots.

There will be a race for Petersburg’s City Council. By Tuesday’s deadline, a total of four candidates had filed for the two open seats, including one former city councilor with nearly two decades of experience. It looks like there will also be races for two of the city’s advisory boards.
