Morning power outage across Petersburg was ‘not the plan,’ officials say

The power went out for almost all of Petersburg around 5:00 a.m. Thursday for about an hour. The power department was doing planned repairs in an isolated area south of town, but inaccurate information led to a much larger outage than anticipated.

Petersburg’s school buildings and surrounding area were on lockdown for over an hour Tuesday afternoon after police received a report of a person with an AR-15 gun and multiple magazines in a school bathroom. Officers found no real threat on the premises and determined it was a false report.

Two survive vehicle crash off Petersburg highway

Both occupants were taken to the hospital in moderate condition Friday night and were released the following morning. The truck sustained substantial damage and was removed on Saturday from the crash site, about nine miles south of Petersburg.
