Firefighters battle flames in wind and rain as Petersburg home burns down

A Petersburg home was destroyed in a fire Jan. 13. Local firefighters responded to the residential fire about two miles out of town along Frederick Point Drive. By the time they arrived, the house was completely engulfed in flames, according to Petersburg’s Fire Chief, Dan Bird. No one was home at the time of the fire; neighbors said that the owners are on vacation.

No serious injuries after truck strikes trash can, cars, building downtown

Part of Petersburg’s Main Street was closed for nearly an hour on Jan. 9. Witnesses say a driver crashed into multiple cars and a building before being treated for minor injuries. No one else was hurt.
