Harvest estimate increases for commercial Dungeness crab, Southeast Alaska fishery to see full fall season
Commercial fishermen left a number of Dungeness crab in Southeast Alaska waters this summer because they had soft shells and were not marketable yet. Fishery managers determined those crab contributed to subpar harvest projections, and found the estimate was actually higher when accounting for the soft-shell crab. Both of those factors allow the fishery’s fall season to go its full length.
