This year, Petersburg Community Foundation funds projects aimed at kids
An organization that supports non profit projects in Petersburg gave out nearly 30 thousand dollars in grants at an event last weekend. Much of the money went to projects that impact kids. And roughly a third of it went to a program that will train high school students to help each other respond to mental health challenges.

Coffee sleeves celebrate local art, philanthropy
This week folks buying coffee and tea in Petersburg will get a little extra color with their hot drink. That’s because the Petersburg Community Foundation has distributed coffee sleeves featuring local artwork to coffee shops around town. Board President Glorianne Wollen says the sleeves are part of a campaign to plant the seeds of philanthropy.

Trainings teach community members to help youth in mental health crisis
Rates of anxiety, depression, and youth suicide are up nationwide according to an advisory on youth mental health released by the U.S. surgeon general. The same is true for Alaska. In Petersburg, the local medical center is training community members to help youth in crisis. And they’re providing all the training free of charge.
