The Petersburg School District is anticipating a $278,000 budget deficit next school year and wants the community’s input on the budget. Like other districts around Alaska, Petersburg is using a budget simulation tool called Balancing Act, where users can give direct feedback on changes to the district’s spending and revenue.

Petersburg High School students are ready to perform their spring play, “The Matchmaker.” The romantic comedy follows a larger-than-life cast of characters in 1880s New York. Ticket sales from the shows will go toward sending theater students to Scotland this summer.

Both the Petersburg Vikings and the Haines Glacier Bears basketball teams were both undefeated coming into their games last week. Although Haines put up a fight, the Vikings won both games on Jan. 29 and 30, scoring 57–38 on Thursday and 59–46 on Friday.
