A new three-day cultural festival will be held at Sandy Beach park in Petersburg this weekend, focusing on preparing and preserving food from the waters and forests of Alaska. The Fall Adult Culture Festival is a new offering for the community and going on at the same time as the Rainforest Festival. There is some overlap between the two, with a food preparation workshop all day Saturday. Joe Viechnicki spoke with organizers Marsha Cook and Christina Sargent and started off asking Cook how the festival got started.

Sign up through the Petersburg Indian Association for that Saturday workshop. The festival starts at 1 p.m. Friday at Sandy Beach park. The Petersburg Indian Association is a sponsor but is not organizing it. Organizers are looking for people of all cultures to demonstrate their methods for preparing food. To sign up call Marsha at 518-1468. The potluck will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Sandy Beach park.
