“Fish Head Radio”

KFSK-FM is a non-commercial community radio station owned and operated by the Narrows Broadcasting Corporation of Petersburg, Alaska, a small, yet vibrant and busy fishing community with strong Norwegian roots.

The station signed on the air September 8th, 1977 broadcasting a diverse and local community service with a mission to inform, enlighten, and entertain. The registered call letters are derived from “Fisk”, the Norwegian word for “Fish”. KFSK serves the communities of Petersburg, Kupreanof, Coffman Cove, Whale Pass, Port Protection, Point Baker, Farragut Bay, Thomas Bay, Little Port Walter, Warm Springs Bay, and Port Alexander.

KFSK provides essential information services such as Emergency Alert notices including severe weather warnings. Designated by the State of Alaska as the Local Primary broadcaster for the area, KFSK acts as the public information official in the event of an emergency.

KFSK provides the only daily, news service in the broadcast area. Local news is provided by a two-person news department. Local, State, National and International news are provided throughout each broadcast day. Entertainment programming is provided by nearly 100 volunteers, along with various network programs produced by National Public Radio, BBC, Alaska Public Media, and various independent producers.

The station serves a listening population of nearly 4,000 residents in the coastal region of Central Southeast Alaska and the vibrant area fishing grounds. The station has over 1,000 members.

Through unique partnerships with our sister stations, we collaborate to extend and support public broadcasting throughout the state. CoastAlaska, an independent but closely related non-profit association, provides engineering, fund raising and administrative support to radio stations throughout Southeast Alaska.

Through wide ranging services and partnerships, we have changed from a local radio station to a company that connects Petersburg with the rest of Alaska and provides information and entertainment to our citizens by a variety of means.
