Petersburg’s Borough Assembly has a lengthy agenda ahead of its meeting today, which starts at 12:00 p.m. in the Assembly Chambers. The assembly will vote on several new items of business, including a request from Rock-N-Road Construction Inc. to allow them to modify the airport rock quarry and a nearby access road in exchange for up to 60,000 cubic yards of rock.

In a letter to the Borough, Rock-N-Road Vice President Ambre Burrell said that the quarry is depleted of all its most easily accessible rock. In order to keep harvesting the resource, she says they need to move the mud dump access road to a new quarry site. Chris Cotta is the Borough’s Director of Public Works. He wrote a letter of support for the trade, suggesting that the rock could be used at the site of the new hospital project. The assembly will vote on whether or not to move forward with that trade today.

The assembly will also consider a few pending land disposals, including an application from Petersburg’s tribe to buy a section of Borough-owned property.

Petersburg Indian Association is interested in purchasing two parcels of land on North 8th Street, where they intend to build residential duplexes and small apartment buildings to rent. Last month, Petersburg’s Planning Commission recommended the Assembly approve of the sale, on one condition: that they maintain public access to a walking trail that crosses through the property, connecting the ballfield and the elementary school.

The assembly will also vote to authorize the sale of another section of borough-owned land: the tideland property currently leased by the owners of Wikan Enterprises Inc. at 103 Dock St. At the last Borough Assembly meeting, the assembly set the price of that parcel at about $112,000.

The Assembly will hold its regular meeting at 12 p.m. today in the assembly chambers. KFSK will broadcast this meeting live and post the recordings in our Assembly Archive. Anyone from the community can join the meeting in person, by phone, or on Zoom. There’s more information on KFSK’s community calendar.
