Petersburg’s Chamber of Commerce gave out a new award during its annual banquet on February 24. Chrystine Lynn, who is 25, received the Petersburg Young Leader award. The award honors a young person whose acts of community service and dedication make them a role model in the community. Lynn serves with the Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department and coaches youth volleyball and basketball at Petersburg Parks and Recreation.

Lynn sat down with KFSK’s Hannah Flor to talk about her volunteer work. She said she didn’t have any idea she’d be getting the award, and she went to the banquet because her mom, Parks and Recreation Director Stephanie Payne, asked her to. She started to suspect she was who Chamber of Commerce President Jim Floyd was talking about when he mentioned the recipient had recently completed their first year with the fire department.

Lynn says next, she’s hoping to get her first responder training to become an Emergency Trauma Technician.
