Petersburg, Wrangell and Ketchikan have power again after an outage this morning, June 24.

The three communities are all customers of the Southeast Alaska Power Agency (SEAPA) which supplies power generated from a couple of hydroelectric facilities in the region.

According to Petersburg Borough Utility Director Karl Hagerman, all three communities were affected by the outage. SEAPA is still investigating the cause as of noon today.

Petersburg Power and Light initially restored the town’s electricity with diesel power, and Hagerman said around 8:00 a.m. that the town was returning to SEAPA power. Wrangell also used generators until returning to the SEAPA feed.

Hagerman said no root cause of the outage has been determined yet.
