Petersburg High School’s swim team finished up the regular season with a splash, and are preparing for the competition ahead. KFSK’s Taylor Heckart sat down with head coach Andy Carlisle to hear about the results of the Oct. 17-18 meet in Juneau, and what that performance means for the regional championship.
Carlisle said that while everyone did well, he “finally tired out” some swimmers who have performed strongly at previous meets. Meanwhile, Carlisle said this meet was great for swimmers Lexi Tow and Brooklyn Whitethorn.
Listen here:
Lexie Tow placed first in the women’s 500 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 200 individual medley, and 100 freestyle.
Brooklyn Whitethorn swam faster than she had previously for the 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke, and 100 freestyle; the latter was an almost 2-second improvement.
Logan Tow placed first in the men’s 200 freestyle with an almost 4-second improvement, and 500 freestyle with an improvement of nearly 12-seconds from his previous time.
Carlisle said that the field for the regional and state meets will be competitive, but members of the team are already talking about “when” they make it to state, not “if.”
The Region V Championship meet will take place in Ketchikan on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
