Petersburg’s high school varsity volleyball team traveled to Craig last weekend for the South Seeding Tournament. The girls won 4-3 matches, keeping them seeded second ahead of regionals next week.
KFSK’s Taylor Heckart caught up with head coach Jaime Cabral to talk about the team’s performance at Craig. Cabral said one of the team’s big challenges last weekend wasn’t even on the court: it was the weather.
Listen here:
The varsity girls won against Craig, Haines, Metlakatla, and Klawock. They lost matches against Wrangell, Skagway, and Hoonah.
Cabral said that the time has flown.
“11 and a half weeks have gone by pretty darn quick for the season,” Cabral said. “They were, I remember, super excited for the season to start, and here we are.”
Both the JV and varsity teams will be hosting a fundraiser event this Saturday, November 15. The teams will play against adult volleyball players. The JV teams will play at 4:30, and the varsity team will play at 6:45. Senior recognition will be afterward.
Then, the team heads to Skagway for the regional competition from Nov. 20-22.
