Petersburg’s high school varsity volleyball team went to Skagway Nov. 20-22 to participate in the regional tournament. The team entered the tournament seeded second in the region, but did not qualify for state.

After an initial first loss to Haines, the team turned around and beat Craig, before a very close loss to Hoonah.

Head coach Jaime Cabral sat down with KFSK’s Taylor Heckart to talk about regions. He said that while the girls didn’t go as far as they wanted, they fought hard during an incredibly competitive tournament.

Cabral said even though the team didn’t win, the experience taught them a valuable life lesson: “that hard work doesn’t guarantee championships, it doesn’t guarantee a win, but it gets you pretty darn close.”

Cabral said he thinks the team had a great season, and he’s proud of their strong work ethic.
