Three Petersburg High School wrestlers competed at the state championship in Anchorage last weekend, Dec. 19-20.
Tanner Caulum, a 145-pound junior, placed fourth at state. 189-pound sophomore Edgar Olsen lost twice and 171-pound junior Eli Anderson had one win and two losses at state.
Head coach James Valentine said they wrestled hard against tough competition, including the wrestler from Wrangell, Jackson Carney, who ultimately took home the state title.
“Ultimately, I think we did as well as we could,” Valentine said.

Wrapping up the season, Valentine shared his vision for the wrestling program moving forward.
“At the end of the day, my goal for our wrestling here in Petersburg is to get the love there again, which then creates the culture,” he said. “Hopefully, the success will come after that.”
