UPDATE Monday, March 23, 3 p.m. : The Petersburg-based troller Sierra Dawn has been located, after it was reported overdue on Sunday.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the 32-foot vessel and operator 60-year-old Bruce Sorenson were reported overdue at noon on Sunday, March 23. Sorenson was reportedly heading from Duncan Canal, southwest of Petersburg, to Coronation Island, off the northwest coast of Prince of Wales Island, to fish.

The Coast Guard used an MH-Jayhawk helicopter to find the Sierra Dawn in “good condition” near Table Bay, north of Coronation Island, at 11:20 a.m. on March 23.

The Coast Guard said the Sierra Dawn is currently waiting for a tow from the Petersburg-based vessel the Aleutian Dream.

The troller Sierra Dawn has been reported overdue, according to a social media post by the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Southeast Alaska. The 32-foot vessel is based out of Petersburg, and was last seen more than a week ago, at noon on March 13th. 

The boat is operated by 60-year-old Bruce Sorenson. He was reportedly heading from Duncan Canal, southwest of Petersburg, to Coronation Island, off the northwest corner of Prince of Wales Island, to fish.

The Coast Guard was unavailable for an interview as of 5:30 pm on Sunday.
